Patton Oswalt is in town, doing some shows.

Who does my diseased, adled, fucked up brain show me a lengthy play of that makes NO sense again? Why, Wil Wheaton of course. ;)

[It's a little tough to read, so the following is the transcript.]

(This card) 'features a select passage from Lovecraft's 1936 letter to C. L. Moore, concerning Republicans: "As for the Republicans, how can one regard seriously a frightened, greedy, nostalgic huddle of tradesmen and lucky idlers who shut their eyes to history and science, steel their emotions against decent human sympathy, cling to sordid and provincial ideals exalting sheer acquisitiveness and condoning artificial hardship for the non-materially-shrewd, dwell smugly and sentimentally in a distorted dream-cosmos of outmoded phrases and principles... Intellectually, the Republican idea deserves the tolerance and respect one gives to the dead." '

Almost 100 years ago, their ideals were as transparent and bogus as they are today. Kind of sad, really, that this is the 'new' thinking in America.

NOW I know why I've had so many problems watching Paul Rudd movies since he played the Prince in the flick. And, I know now why my view of Repo with R. Largo as the villain was so .... visceral. The same actor played Big Daddy Capulet. And, yes, he knocked it out of the park with both roles, but .... it's always lightly shocking to see older flicks this way and get the insights back into the forefront of why some performances are ... oddly shaped in one's mind. Probably had a LOT to do with how fucking awesome this movie is overall.
