Van Hellsing
2004-May-08, Saturday 02:43 amMy. What a waste of $6. Having seen it now, I can honestly say that I might not have felt nearly so raped and cheated had I rented it for $1.99. But as it is.... Such a pitiful script and story.... And effects that clearly are from very advanced hardware doing very, very ancient sorts of effects. Werewolves without tails (save for about half the screen time of the first one) as well as the retarded Incredible Hulk magic pants (where the bottoms, to the knees, rip to shreds, but the rest stay discretely in place). Vampires that are absurd, and a Dracula that lacks nearly all refinement and quality while having such amazingly goofy powers as to be beyond disbelief. And Baron von Frankenstein going to all the trouble of making a creature only to add in all sorts of needless and goofy capacitance things. Same sort of issue I had with The Core's ship magically being able to take heat and convert it to a perfect voltage at just the right frequency to drive the ship. It's absurd beyond the tolerance of a mind already under assault from so many other plot holes.
Good points? The final werewolf was vaguely cute, the notion of the interactions of vampires leading to what it did, and a lot of the comedy which was the bulk of the film. Not enough laughs to carry it and make it really worthwhile, but for a rental, it'd be a fun lark.
