Well. Ain't that a blast from the past.
2004-Jun-24, Thursday 05:46 pmAs some of you know, back when 9/11 happened, I was actually in New York a couple of weeks prior. 8/30-9/3, to be precise, as I just rediscovered. I found the pics I have from the trip, and have posted them.
Some notes:
-- I took lots of pics of random guys in and out of clothes, and spandex. Gasp in shock with me now. :)
-- There are four pictures of a big round thingy, right near the beginning. In a twist of black irony, that happens to be the original monument to those that died in the first WTC attack. You might remember it: those goofballs that tried to blow it up from the garage? Anyway, it was situated in the plaza, between the two main towers. Obviously, it is no more.
-- Closer to the end, there are pics of the Manhattan layout. Those are pics I took from the Crow's Nest restaurant. In Tower I (I think), there was a restaurant about 8 floors from the top, and it had the most breathtaking view of the entire island and even the main land. Enjoy. I don't know that such a view will ever be available again.
-- We didn't actually make it to Liberty Island. Even then, they were severely limiting the amount of folk that could actually go up to the top of the statue, and we were far too late to even ponder getting up there. So we went to Ellis Island instead, and wow. Talk about some very unpleasant history. I'm continually amazed that we, as a country, maintain this view that we're some sort of godsend. Some of the crap that was pulled on the way into the country is just staggering.
Anyway, enjoy the pics. They were very nice to take, even though the same sort of free, uncaring trip is not likely going to be available for a few decades now. How the world changes with the blink of an eye.
