The week in review
2004-Aug-07, Saturday 10:46 pmWow. What a joyous week.
The house painting I'm working on for Ken goes into triple overtime because the caulking (most of which is original on a 30YO house) is taking FOREVER to get out and replace. Also, all the eaves on the house were shot to hell and back, so not only did they need to be wirebrushed in preparation, but they also had to have a base coat of oil-based paint for prep. Lost one of my workers to back problems, who was supposed to be handling the shutters. They, and all the trim, were there own special joys because the new color scheme is totally opposite the old. The old had this nasty light grey/white as the base, and a slate blue as the trim/accent. Now, it's a curious beige for base, and a yellow-white for trim, and a cocoa derivative for accent. So, the trim color from dark to light takes at least two coats of paint. Double time -- hooray! So, anyway, I finally get the parts I can do done by Thursday-ish.
Missed calls from various folk, including Gordon who may well turn out to be The One down in Florida. We'll see, but so far, things are far, far, far more positive and refreshing than they ever were with the last two, or with any of those I was talking to to date. Finally talked to him yesterday, just before my phone died from lack of juice. Stupid battery.
Was trying to sign up for a 3 day quick-intro to bartending at the local community college. I thought it'd be a great way to work a little part time, and get a LOT of spending money, and back up money. That class turned out to be cancelled due to low enrollment.
Found out that my start date at Borders is in fact a week and a half later than I was told initially (due to construction delays). Which puts me into a very, very tight spot for cash for next month's rent and such. Just the sort of delight I was hoping for, what with running around to half a dozen other job interviews/openings/seminar thingies and getting turned down or put off for each one of them. Time, gas, and money totally wasted because I'm too qualified for most grunt labor. Hell, even the IRS phone operator job I did the 2 hour app process for turned out to be for positions that aren't going to be happening until October, and they'll be continuing the hiring process next month for. I wish I could get that time back.
The only high point is that all the eBay stuff I've sold off finally got word back, save for one thing. Now it's time to relist all the crap that didn't sell the first time, and keep talons crossed that it'll be unloaded this time. Or at least more of it will be.
Well, I guess that's a lie. I also saw that Wolf's Rain and Invader Zim have both been released (at least the first volume of each anyway) to DVD. Now I have something else to work toward that will definitely ease my tensions.
