Oh, yeah. On a totally positive note
2011-Jul-11, Monday 10:27 amSo, my DVR from Comcast is giving up the ghost. A royal pile of shit, really, if the truth be known. ANYWAY! I got the HD decoder for 3 free months, and I'm in the process of migrating what I thought were a HUGE number of shows but turned out to be like 6 hours of programming to the new Media Center. Fun, fun, yawn. (Though finding all these Cycling and College Wrestling and Football programs WAS delightful. ;))
But when the nice Comcast guy was here Friday, yes, there was a huge problem getting the HD video to show 'properly' through my existing video in card from Hauppauge. Turns out that it will truly only grab the standard def feed from an HD signal, no matter what we tried. But?!! Hauppauge to the rescue again!

The Colossus will handle component video or unencrypted HDMI inputs (probably need the component video since Comcast is almost certainly encrypting their HDMI signals), as well as either basic stereo in, or optical audio feeds. AMAZINGLY kewl. And it's only like $130. So hopefully soon, with my next big school refund, I'll be able to snag one of those, and actually start grabbing HD video recordings, and handling the HD stuff properly. That'll be AWESOME. :)
Now back to drooling over collegiate boys in their wrestling singlets. Don't bother me for the next two hours, unless you'd like to watch with me. ;)
