I just got back from seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  And what a rambunctious romp it was.  It was actually rather close to the book in tone, mood, and most of the characters.  Tim naturally had to take things to an illogical extreme, but that's what you get from him and if you expect anything else from his movies, you should probably have your head examined.  By a trained squirrel.  ;)

Everything up to the end of it was just brilliant.  The effects were magnificent, a good deal of the subtle jokes were hilarious, and pretty much every second Johnny was on screen was a work of pure genius.  I'm not sure those two (along with Danny of course) should be allowed to make movies -- they set the bar far too high for everyone else.

If you're a J. Depp, T. Burton, or R. Dahl fan, I most strongly recommend seeing this.  It really did fill my heart with glee, and my mind with bad, bad, bad ideas.  And I truly can't wait for the DVD to see cut scenes, and the cast/crew interviews and the like.

I went into the movie with high expections (a rare thing these days), and was amazed that it went above and beyond those! Holy crizzle, it was great--and I've seen it twice so far! :D

I've never read the book but look forward to seeing it. I just picked up a related DVD at Wal-Mart called '5 Children and IT'. I've yet to see it but I think it has the same boy in it as in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
BTW Hello. :)
