I'm just stunned....
2006-Jan-11, Wednesday 07:41 pmThis round of judicial 'confirmation hearings' are even worse than the last ones for Roberts. I swear, every Republican I've heard thus far has been all about 'Judge Alito, I must now, on behalf of every free thinking American and upstanding citizen, bow down, lick your boots, lick your hole, and lick your entire body. For the good of America because you're just such a righteous American, and I'm certain I speak for everyone when I say that if you had been in one of the planes on 9/11, you would most assuredly have devoured those Foes to Freedom with your teeth.' And every Democrat is all about 'You know, 'Judge' and I use the term only because I have to, Hurricane Katrina exposed all the problems with our so-called government, and I'd vote against you if I thought I could do it. So, instead I'm only going to say that all my constituents are terrified you'll be a raging psychotic, but I'm not actually going to try and prevent your confirmation because it's just utterly pointless. And I'm scared.'
Please boys and girls. You're not there to showboat. You're not there to lob ridiculous hyperbole about. You're not there to have tearful near-breakdowns. You're there to say yea or nay on his preliminary confirmation and move it into the Senate. Anyone who would actually believe your showboating is either completely insane, or is already well inside your .... whatever container you choose to think of them in. Spare us. It's neither the pursuit of Freedom nor the American Way to bury a simple procedure in such rhetoric. It's only the pursuit of reelection in a mid-term election that's key. Please. Just give it a rest.
