I shopped for car insurance again last night. Not that State Farm is bad, per se, but I really don't like seeing my rates jump by about 50% simply because I get the 'bonus' of living in WA state.

Ameriprise, underwritten by Amex, offers something that's staggeringly affordable to Costco members. I knew this from years ago, but tried it again now, anyway, and DAMN..... I got back the entire increase by going with them. Granted, it still jacked up my monthly rate slightly, but that's because they go with 5 payments for 6 months, rather than 6. But still, it's terribly amusing getting reliable, decent insurance for less than what I was paying before the transition, and having my payments increase only slightly.

I hate to sound like an ad for them again, but Costco membership really does have its perks. If you take advantage of what they offer, you really do make back the membership fee within a year, or less.

Hmm, and I thought my Costco card just got me free samples o.o How do you inquire about the car insurance?

Create your account on the website, www.costco.com, and then just click on the Services link at the top. From there it's just following the pic link things at the bottom. Also, if you have homeowner's insurance already, you should consider switching that as well. They give multi-line discounts, of course, and their rates there are insanely cheap too.

Check into Wauwanesa insurance. Was recommended to me by a good friend.. where State Farm wanted to charge me 1800 a year, this place charged 900. Well worth looking into.

I'd love to. Except they only insure in OR and CA apparently. And since I'm up in WA, just across the river, that makes me SOL. But thanks for the thought kitten.
