The Core

Wow.

I have only seen a few movies that I walked out completely disgusted with myself for having spent any money, whatsoever, on. And I'm proud to say that list has expanded by this latest.

I saw Armageddon, with Bruce Willis, when it was on the big screen. And I thought there could not possibly be anything to rival the sheer foolishness and stupidity of the movie. Boyhowdy was I mistaken. The Core not only exceeded it, it perhaps doubled it. Such random plot complications, such ridiculous abuses of science. Such amazing modifications to simple things like distance and time.

I went into it expecting a horrible movie, with lame effects. And was I ever surprised by how far it exceeded my expectations.

It could only come from Hollywood, and now having experienced it, I'm sorry it was ever allowed out of the can.

Pretty lousy, wasn't it? Some of the special effects looked like they were from the 80's, and was I the only one who thought that the inside of the Earth looked like a Winamp visualization?

Any movie that I think will be worse than Highlander 2, I won't see. Hence, I have a fairly decent record for not hating movies in the theater. No, I wasn't planning on seeing this movie, and your post only serves to reinforce that. Well...sorta...not that I really know much about your taste in movies. :-)

First off, LOVE the pic. It's so cute. Love to see the whole pic and more if they're available somewhere. ;)

Second, thanks. I honestly doubt that any of the people I know, however tangentially, would come out of a viewing of this masterpiece of the blase with anything other than derision and feeling insulted. Suspension of disbelief only goes so very far. And even those out for a romp, and a relatively expensive diversion (which is essentially what I went into it for) will very likely be quite disappointed.

Well, I for one went in with low expectations, and so was not disappointed. For the record, I don't see how The Core could be worse than Armageddon, but that's me.

I had fun seeing The Core, but that's all it was for me. Mindless entertainment. Silly eye candy. I guess my expectations were so low with regard to science that I was practically giddy when they got something right.

Heh. I thought you'd appreciate that. I'll try to remember to have them on my laptop if I ever go somewhere where I might run into you.
