after watching the entirety of Joseph Campbells and The Power of Myth with Bill Moyers (6 interviews with Campbell where he talks about myth, their reflection of us, and how we can and are supposed to achieve Divinity here on Earth through them). I'm looking at www.comicartfans.com and this artist, Shelton Bryant. And what's leaping out at me is that his female villains and heroes are MASSIVELY endowed, and in most cases in slutty, seductive, almost-whoreish poses. And the male villain/heroes? Hazy. Indistinct, and any closeups are from head to lower torso, at their best. No sign of male crotch or ass region. What the hell does this say about the continued sexual repression courtesy of The Great Death Cult (Christianity), where entirely fictional representations are STILL showing women as objects and men as scary if they're shown to have reciprocal organs.

I so weep for this culture.

>_< I know, I know. If you want some good boy-whorin' comic smut, try Patrick Fillion. Good sense of humor too.

I saw this on Digg and thought of your post:
http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/12/28/the-celebration-of-cartoons-and-comic-strip-art/

Although not ALL the comics posted have this problem, there are quite a few that specifically focus on cute/sexy/erotic/pornographic females in their comics. But of course there's no corresponding mention of cute/sexy/erotic/pornographic male art!

Ugh. I feel a rant coming on.

Well, what really got me was that the art I was looking at earlier was definitely on par with Kingdom Come, or Killing Joke, or any other major work that is all about adult themes. But the women had their asses covered in tiny metallic bikinis or something similar and were shoving it into the foreground, or had breasts that could kill your average man at 2 paces. Things like that. All very well drawn and such, just absurd. And again, not a single mention or highlight of a male's sexuality beyond their big, hulking, musclebound chest. Hell, the artist even did a Black Panther pic, and WOW does that hero drip with sexuality. And yet, it was sooooo neutered it was pathetic.

I feel a rant coming on too. As well as a little open letter to the sexually repressed out there.

Don't get me started. ;-) There seems to be a shortage of good old fashioned bondage and pointlessly slow machines of doom that the spandex clad hero has been tied to! What the hell have comics come to these days!?!?
