I had no idea all the little bullshit going into the Wikileaks situation.

And I had no idea about all the potential ramifications of it. True, I don't 'just' take Salon.com as the premiere source of info, but if even 3/4 of this is accurate, this is some very, very, very scary shit.....

Well if you mess with national security secrets (warranted or not), why wouldn't you expect to incur the ire of various three-letter organizations?

Well of the No Such Agency and the FBI and such, absolutely. But these articles also point to collusion with Bank of America. Ostensibly a private corporation in that it's not directly gov't run. In theory. THAT is what scares me about this. Citizens United finally codified One Dollar, One Vote, but to take it to this extreme is .... well, to me it's truly a reminder of how gossamer-thin the Bill of Rights has really become in the last 30 years.

You know me: I'm as wary of corporate influence on government as you are. My entire post-Army life will be dedicated to living simply in a flagrant living blasphemy against consumerism.

Even so, when someone threatens to shut down banking websites, that tends to stray into the 'economic warfare' category which, would squick enough people in government to attract "official" attention. I'm all for corporate whistle blowing...but sabotaging internet bank commerce wholesale leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

But did Assange (sp?) threaten that, or was that Anonymous? I thought Assange (sp?) only promised to release more and more documents from those banks that would show their ties to the various bad things that had been happening, and showing no small amount of backing various highly questionable if not outright illegal things around the world.

It was Anonymous, but I'm sure to some they would seem to be allied with WikiLeaks. They DO seem to form a good squad of sorts, even if it is without Assange's specific blessing (although also without any condemnation).

Now, if it's the banks trying to get the government to go after WikiLeaks for merely wanting to release info on them, then there's a problem. Of course, it is likely that there are enough annoyed people in the State Department who would be all to happy to use BofA as an excuse to go after Wikileaks anyway. But then, such decisions and thought processes are above my pay grade, and outside my branch.
