Writer's Block: The one that got away

I do indeed believe in the concept of the 'soulmate'. To my mind, on this planet there is exactly one other person who will fulfill any given individual completely and fully, no matter what form that fulfillment takes.
I don't believe I've met mine. But with over 6bil people floating around, the odds are pretty stacked against it.
As to the one getting away, no. It's a cornerstone of my belief in a soulmate that if and when you are fortunate enough to find yours, you both will recognize it immediately and very little will ever come between the two of you forming the final, inseparable relationship.

Not being strong enough to just stand up and be out and proud of it; not being strong enough to simply pursue what I knew would actually make me happy. Wasted too much time, and WAY too much emotional investment on being something I have no interest in being. I only wish I had the advantage then of the wisdom I've gathered up to now. Ah well. That's one of the reasons I try and alleviate guilt whenever possible -- it doesn't do a huge amount of good to ponder those things now since this IS the past.

Non-polar computers. The new memory technology that allows for 100GB to be stored in cm^2 of space is awesome, but they also mentioned that it would easily allow for computers based on base-10, rather than base-2. To me, that would be the pinnacle of computing, to finally break this stupid digital system and develop computers that are much closer to human methodology. Yes, I'm a total tech geek.

For most things, yes. But for my part, it depends on whether the person is genuinely remorseful for having fucked up before. If they're not, or they're not willing to try and rectify the thing that caused the issue initially then I hope they have a wonderful life. And bid them buh-bye.

First day of autumn. This pollen explosion is definitely not doing my sinuses and eyes any favors at all. Though, if I were to go through another winter right on the heels of this one, I'd ask for more consistent rains and ZERO snow. You know, the amount I signed up for in moving up here?

That would definitely be the time at Borders. Both because some of the client base were soooooo abusive and amazingly fucking rude, and because the manager there was such an utter and total douchebag that he honestly didn't seem to have a 'good' day unless he made at least one employee cry from riding them about nothing at all.

I've met a few over the years, but mostly at booksignings and the like. I did meet Clyde Drexler, too, on his book tour a few years ago. He came to Borders to do some publicity shots and some signatures but only stayed a few minutes. He seemed like an OK guy, but overall, I wasn't impressed -- I'm not a basketball fan so his celebrity and accomplishments meant less than zero to me.

Cell phones. And not just because of the obnoxious, one-sided conversations you're graced with hearing in the worst possible places. But because some people KEEP TALKING on them and treat the interactions they have with others while on them as some sort of violation of their private lives. Hang up the fucking phone, and talk to the cashier and pay attention. Please. It will do you a world of good, and it will certainly help improve the mood of the rest of us stuck in line behind you.
Also, because of SMS/Texting that has been tacked on to all these phones, they've become a true road hazard. Is it clever to be driving in a Yukon Denali, with no one in the car with you, and your attention is on giggling over a clever thing that was just texted to you? Or is it more clever and responsible to focus on the rush hour traffic you're in, in a true road whale?

It's a name that I made up, after reading some specific porn in a specific website, and needed a new handle to give over on chat room. Originally it was supposed to be Ss'urgul, but the room didn't allow for apostrophes in user names on first creation, and it sort of stuck without ever since.

Build my dream house, on my dream lot. Use that space to finish the non-plug-in, emission free vehicle plans I'm working on. Sell said plans around the globe, and watch the oil infrastructure burn to the ground.
Oh, yeah, and never have to worry about working on any sort of shit-tastic job that I didn't want to work on ever again.

I do know someone! Just about 1/3 of the old people that used to frequent Borders when I worked there! Yay for conservatism!
I don't. But then, I came to realize that days were just days, with no more bearing than any other day out there. Sure the Collective Unconscious might attribute certain things to certain days for certain reasons, but this fear of 13 that has sustained the country for just shy of 200 years is finally passing, and I can't wait for it to finally be laid to rest.

I'm always torn on this one. Sometimes I want to be creamated, and my ashes scattered, sometimes I want to donate what few viable bits there are to science and organ donation, and sometimes I want the pine box burial, so my body returns to the earth more naturally, with a lot less air pollution. Mostly, I honestly doubt I'll care as I'm not really attached to it, per se, and when I'm dead, I won't have any use for it anyway.

2009-Jan-20, Tuesday 09:28 am[Error: unknown template qotd]I honestly hope it's the shattering of the economy because that was caused in many direct and indirect ways by his precious war. The destruction of the economy will really encompass many of his worst fuckups all by itself.
I also hope that Congress does what it should have done 4 years ago, and actually file Federal charges against him and most of his cabinet. That would also be a wonderful legacy indeed.
