Car functions returned!
2004-Jun-06, Sunday 07:15 amHooray!
Well, yesterday was rather busy and productive. Courtesy of Petorawolf and
moondog4rnr made it down to the U Pull It on Foster, in Portland, to start trying to find the emissions and environmental stuff that was missing off the engine block to try and get the carb up and running correctly. Found some of the metal tubing bits and even the broken ECS control sensor thingy. Also managed to find one of the two missing duty solenoids. It was sweet. And, it all cost $6.50. SWEET!
Got back and abandoned the notion of putting all that stuff back on. It was raining, of course, and those tubes and such would take probably an hour or two more to get on. Not fun in the wetness. And besides, they're not totally required, as it turned out. But with Matt's help, did get the original Hitachi carb fixed, and reinstalled. And with a few of the vacuum hoses hooked up..... DAMN it's running great now. There's none of that 1st/2nd gear stalling and gasping bullshit. It's just smooth as silk. And though it's not a great thing, it's running very lean currently on the gas/air mix. So, until I make the effort to adjust the mix, I'll be getting some kick-ass gas mileage.
Finally. One major source of stress and aggravation gone. And I have a car again to putter around town for things like, oh, interviews and such. Hooray.
