Don't buy it. SERIOUSLY.

I was a dealer for Denon. I still might have the ability to buy it wholesale for you. If you Really want it and have the funds I can see what I can do.

Oh, there's no 'actual' worry about me purchasing it. I'm still employed in retail, not IT, so my buying power is extraordinarily limited at this stage. At some point, once fully reemployed back in a market segment where I'm making more than 6 figures a year, I'll happily drop a heap-ton into something silly like that. But for now, BJ and I just have content myself on the wage-slave wage I make.

But thanks muchly for the notion of getting it wholesale.

Your warning seems to smack of other things, too, as in perhaps it's a pile of shit in a pretty package. Is this the case?

Heh, a little. But not much. Denon's FM stage is just the smallest touch unsensitive, but really its the output stages. The Denons sound fine - very open, with an airy top and a decent midrange - but from the lower midrange and down to the bass the amp stage suffers from a general lack of maximum output current. So it sounds very airy, with excellent volume on the high power goods, but not "powerful", that is, not with a rock-solid bottom octave foundation. Deep bass response is generally a touch weak from the lack of absolute maximum current.

If your speakers work well with this type of voltage swing amp versus a high current swing style amp then a Denon is simply awesome. In other words they don't drive hard, reactive loads very well. Good volume on such a load but again will lack, I feel, a solid bottom octave foundation. In that case, in receivers, an H/K, Onkyo Integra or Marantz will do the best job with their higher output currents. H/K's being a touch dark, Onkyo being a touch grainy, while Marantz IMHO being the best of all worlds. But of course those are the family sounds of each manufacturer, and they generally stay within their family class.

*grins* Well, unfortunately, based on that argument alone, you've just sold me on Denon for all time, then. I'm not as 'needy' for a deafening <1000Hz range as some of the kiddies driving around with 'only' bass exuding from their car. I'm actually much more in tune with the midrange in speaker response. I like to actually hear it all, and I've found over the years that a solid, high resolution midrange series with a bit of very low and very high chopped off actually sounds like auditory gold to me.

If it helps, what I'm driving right now is a pair of Energy 2.2 bookshelf speakers, and a matched center (though I can't recall the model for the life of me). And when I had it in the 5.0 surround (still don't have a subwoofer) I was just STUNNED at the audio clarity and resolution. For such tiny speakers they have a better sound than nearly all the tower speakers I've heard over the years save, possibly, for the very high end Infiniti's I'd heard many years ago.

Oh, and of course you are welcome about the offer. :)

Makes me wonder. I probably could earn a fortune working "true" IT but since I dont...I don't :D But a lot of people tell me I do have the skills, as today's LJ update attests, but I just don't want to get into IT full time job-wise.
