Underworld Evolution

ssurgulOk, so there's that rule that sequels must suck when compared to the original. And of course there are the exceptions to the rule. This would almost be one of those exceptions.
The lighting and mood wasn't as well developed as in the first. The characters weren't quite as nicely developed either. Granted, there were more, and there were a LOT more of them this go-round. I did enjoy some of the mystery aspects to it, as well, as Celine learned all the sordid details of why Viktor did what he did. The dialog wasn't quite as witty or devious in this one either.
I didn't like the way Michael was portrayed at the end, but that was actually a relatively minor hitch for the flick. The tech for it was a bit better, and some of the new toys weren't so bad at all. And of course, Marcus running around in his bat bodysuit and otherwise half-naked through most of his scenes really didn't hurt at all either.
I LOVED the new Lycans. DAMN were they hot with a capital HOT. For those that were annoyed with the rubbery and feline qualities of the woofers from the first one, they're much hairier and wolfier than that, particularly William. I won't say why or anything, as that would spoil some of the fun of the flick for you, and this really is meant to be a mostly spoiler free review. But they did have all the digitigrade goodness and human motion to help catapult them into the realms of delight that Dog Soldiers and certain other werewoof flicks of the past have delivered on.
Overally I'd rate it a rough 6 or 6.5 on a scale of 10. It wasn't great, but it didn't suck either. Unless you're in it for the hotness that is the werewoofs. Then I'd rate it a strong 8.5 or 9. While there weren't enough of them as in the first movie, they did have a few that were kept as guard dogs, on collars, chains and with head harnesses. Those that know me will understand that goes a LONG way to making this movie VERY appealing. Can't wait for the Unrated DVD release with all the special features and making-of's.
