Is it just me....?

I've never modded my IE to load to any page other than msn.com, the default.  And for a long time, I was simply overwhelmed, and disappointed, and annoyed by the amount of crap and clutter and whatnot on the opening page.  And now....  Today I fire up IE again, and suddenly everything's neat, tidy, and much more serene.

Huh.  Yet again, MS 'innovates' with standards and ideals that everyone else has had for years.  Way to stay well behind the game, guys!

IE?

I didn't think anyone used that anymore.

Unfortunately it's still the single biggest browser, and too many sites and tools are still written to its 'standards'. Thank ghods the states and federal anti-trust case down here was dropped due to lack of interest. I would hate to think that the Evil Empire might have actually been toppled and things could have proceeded toward reliable, perhaps even low-cost/free code for computer users. How intolerable that might have been.

You ought to see what I put on my screensaver here at the shitty day job:

I spoke too soon.

While filling out my Census online, Firefox crashed three times in different places. Not really crashed. Just closed.

So, I had to fire up IE. *shudder*

Now I need to go drink some of the crappy coffee here to get the taste out of my mouth.

Ya.....

I like Firefox in that it's a reasonably small and relatively 'ok' browser, overall. But it's crashed and burned on me far too often. And, if I'm not paying enough attention, it'll easily go to 700MB of RAM/swap without my noticing. That does have some serious impact on performance, tragically.

Still not quite ready for the big leagues, I'm afraid.

Yep. Precisely how I felt at several of my corporate gigs and the like. Although, there are good reasons to stay behind the curve by a rev level or two, stability and reliability being two of the biggest. However, when dealing with IE, and particularly the front page, since the old-new stuff WAS more reliable and stable and user friendly, the only reason they wouldn't is the typical MS reason: 'We're so fucking awesome and great, you better worship our asses for giving you bad crap. Otherwise, we'll force a new key finder on you, and make you reinstall EVERYTHING!'

...you could just get a Mac Mini, run Windoze when you have to, and run Firefox in Mac OS whenever you want to get anything accomplished. ;)
