Movie affinity

You know, I shouldn't really be surprised by anything that happened this evening.  Not my reaction to the movie I just watched, nor my realization about interpersonal stuff.

I just watched Howl's Moving Castle, finally.  And I need only say it was right there with Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke for pure artistry and talent.  Absolutely amazing.

However, I think it says more that I probably ought not trust overmuch anyone who says they 'weren't that impressed with it'.  Particularly when said person wasn't that impressed with many of Miyazake's works.  Anyone who can't embrace that sort of high fantasy and see through to the deeper messages and allegories really isn't ever going to make a good relation, friend or otherwise.

I actually had mixed feelings on it. Not because it wasn't gorgeous but because I love the original book and it...er, wasn't it. And I kept wanting it to be.

It was very pretty though and not bad...just not the book.

Having not read the book I can't say yet. I"ll probably go and read it now, though, having seen the flick.

One thing I will say is that it was just a lot nicer having the visual of the birdy-mage-demon there. Definitely a treat for the eyes in some ways.
