Dr. Who, Season 3
2007-Aug-06, Monday 10:21 pmI just realized one of my big problems about the Daleks in Season 3.
First season, I literally got chills, in a huge way, when the first Dalek showed up in the collector's basement. I couldn't believe that something so goofy could do me in that way, but nonetheless, it did. The notion of Dr. W. trapped in a locked room with a Dalen like that.... Distressing as hell.
Second season, I LOVED seeing the Daleks and the Cybermen going at it, and I totally bought off on the cult of Skarra being there, and the reasons for it. Very cool. And the snarkiness and bitchiness that they had were GREAT. A tad outlandish, sure, but it was thoroughly enjoyable.
Third season, what the hell??? One cult member suddenly appears, either as the last of the earlier 4 or a single survivor that ended up elsehwere from the others after/during the War?? Nah. And imagining the need to breed into humans? Can't make the stretch, sorry there, guys. Really, it felt more like a reach and a stretch need rather than an actual plot. Again. I feel bad for David and other members of the crew that are longtermers for so much of this past season. (But then, even the Dr. Who Confidentials seem to be trying to be much more flash and bling than substance, so perhaps it's just a passing trend/phase over at BBC studios.)
