2008-Mar-16, Sunday 08:25 pmWell, that's amusing in it's own little way.
So, for those that didn't see, apparently LJ is doing away with all free accounts. Period. By itself that's not a huge deal. But I've gotten conflicting information that currently paid accounts may or may not be allowed to step down to basic accounts when the time expires.
Last year, I mentioned that all those who were worried about their accounts should get them archived, just in case they got banned without warning. That, also, was essentially my last straw with LJ. I was content to support them as a paid member for a time, but their views on censorship and their diminishing support of the user base, while flooding us with a lot of services that I frankly couldn't care less about as well as bloating up the interface with a lot more 'features' that were just plain stupid to me have all left me feeling that my money is going awry.
As a consequence, when the final straw happened last yet, I decided I would not be renewing my account, and just let it slip back into free territory to keep up with friends and such. If I'm not allowed to stay any longer, since I'm no longer actively supporting them financially, so much the better. If I am, well, I'm still going to be migrating slowly away from LJ in general anyway. I actively encourage all my friends to do the same. I'm moving over to Google's blogging tool at: http://ssurgul.blogspot.com/ For a time, I'll likely be double entering data, but with enough time, I fully expect to migrate over there entirely. Hope to see you around.
