It's the measure that's been forced on the ballots by religious nutballs who are so terrified of 'retribution' they've been suing to keep their names from being released. You know, in defiance of other State laws that require the names be released when they're on state ballot initiatives.

I'm so fucking sick of Mormons; that's very likely (though just an assumption right now) the bulk of the people that signed this. And after the horseshit campaign they mounted in CA with Prop 8, now they're justifiably afraid of standing up and saying 'Fuck you fags!'.

Anyway, a rant against the morally corrupt and bankrupt pretend Church wasn't the point of the post, not directly anyway. Reading the statement against Ref Measure 71, it's truly staggering how many exclamation points they used. It's so clear that the only economic and 'moral' points the religious nutball fringe can make is based on baseless fears and sliding-slope arguments. Oh, and of course ad hominem attacks as well. To quote:

"Rebuttal of Statement For Statutory benefits are not rights. Those who choose to engage in homosexual relationships already enjoy the exact same constitutional rights and protections all Americans have. Washington has decided to recognize and promote marriage between one man and one woman above other types of relationships. SB 5688 would make our state's Defense of Marriage Act meaningless. Washington State cannot afford to make same-sex partnerships equal to marriage. It's that simple. Reject SB 5688 to preserve marriage!"

SB 5688, so you're aware, was dubbed the Everything-But-Marriage act and afforded committed Domestic Partners the same rights and privileges afforded to married couples without actually calling it marriage. Somehow it's never enough for those nutballs to get what they wanted - the 'sanctity' of the word marriage to support a situation that they themselves know is fundamentally flawed (marriage is the only way society works, marriage is for procreation only, if gays marry next they'll demand the right to marry the desklamp, etc.) Nope. They've got to legislate their corrupted, flawed morality to the detriment of everyone and everything around them.

When I'm wealthy enough, I swear here and now I'm going to go on interstate campaigns to put measures before the people to outlaw Mormonism once again. I'm going to treat it exactly the same way, and I'm going to hire the corrupt and soulless PR companies to generate fake ads with made-up facts, innuendo and scare tactics to turn the country against the Mormons. See how they appreciate that sort of treatment. Again.
