The Book of Eli

One fucked up film. In the good way. It's a very dystopian future type western genre pic for almost the entire movie. In a way I felt that Gary Oldman, the bad guy, was actually under used. They could just as easily have had some generic dink in that role. Denzel Washington, though, did an amazing job in .... an incredibly challenging role. The whole thing felt like a collision between Blade Runner and Mad Max/Road Warrior. Until those last 5 minutes, when evil gets punished in a way that can truly only be called Biblical.
I'm on the fence between 4.5 and 5 stars; there were a few things that just didn't work for me, throughout, but that final reveal of the ending is .... Well, it rivals Blair Witch Project for fucked-uped-ness. Definitely worth watching, though.
