Well, I knew much of what was covered, but there were some new tidbits particularly around the Hawaii anti-gay-marriage amendment and their covert support for that one as well.

I recall a former roommate's statements around gay equality demonstrations around the world, that someone marching in a gay pride parade or activism in a middle Eastern country that declares faggotry as punishable by death to be their own fault if they get attacked or even killed. They shouldn't even try. Yes, he is gay. But he's lost sight of the reality on the ground. The 80's were terrific for the gay community having strong, clear voices DEMANDING equality under the law, much like the women's movement had with the ERA and such. Gays are much more accepted now, so it just didn't matter to him. After all, if he could have his boyfriend that's all he cared about, fuck everyone else.

This documentary really reminds us of the need to stand up, to shout down the hypocrisy of the Religious Right and their finger puppets the Retardican party. Without doing so, it allows the glimmer and shadows of doubt to creep into the minds of other groups that we presumed were once with us in our struggles. Look at the ~70% Pro-8 vote from African Americans, based solely on their religious upbringing and the terror tactics the LDS used to scare them. That somehow if I marry my boyfriend, somehow that will prevent them from marrying their girlfriend. Or in the LDS case, their 4-15 girlfriends. That somehow, as Rachel insists on framing it, this is a zero-sum game. We win at their expense, and to their detriment.

I'm pleased as punch that the WA attorney general and supreme court ruled that publishing ballot measure sponsors doesn't 'sufficiently stifle' the initiative measures. I'm sick to fucking death of these cowardly fucking people that have to attack in dark places as a mob, but then retreat behind their stained glass windows and their cross during the day running my life for me by determining what my basic, fundamental liberties are in this country.

Do you think the mormons, et all are liable for violating the civil rights of gay people?

Like, could someone bring a court case against them? :)
