Hemp Rope prep work

So, I've been getting ready to make a nice, big purchase of hemp rope for bondage and whatnot play. I've also been going through various sites that talk about prepping the rope for such play. Suddenly I can see why folk like Monk and others offer the rope pre-prepped and pre-softened for the money they do. It's kind of a bitch to get it into that shape. :)

But it'll also be good to be sure I can do it and understand the process. And $40 for 64 yards of rope delivered is still one hell of a deal.
