Schindler's List.

I'm just now watching it -- yes it's so long after it was released, but I'm just now sitting down with it. And wow. Saving Private Ryan without all the heroism. My ghods it was quite the impact and provocative film. With this heavy talk again and again of Obama being Hitler or a new Nazi, it's a stark reminder of what the Nazis REALLY were back in the day, or at least what the fanatics were. Whoever activates Goodwin's Law really needs to be forced to watch this flick every time that law is brought to bear. Words have meaning. And this visual to such a meaning of those words..... That would go a long way to reminding folk to reconsider such rash words over things like enforcing written policy on a discussion board.

I'll never forget the footage of the aftermath of the death camps that they showed us in school 25 years ago. The people dragging hundreds of nude emaciated corpses into mass graves was certainly disturbing. Some people still maintain that those films and pictures were staged by the allies, and that none of it ever happened. History is written by the victors, but that sounds about as implausible as the fake lunar landing conspiracy theories.

Yeah... It stuns me that the conspiracy theorists would go so far as to claim that the admittedly-badly kept records of the people that were slaughtered were also faked. It's just so difficult to wrap one's head around such an ... encompassing crime. Such a casual, callous disregard for life. But even in the movie there was that scene in one of the camps where the 'bedtime story' was claimed to be too dark and disturbing. Where the women were in complete denial that the Nazis would do such a thing because they were the workforce. And why would they want to kill their own workforce? It's hard to fathom, but still harder to watch.

You know it was some right wing conservative fucktard that came up with goodwin's law.

Probably got tired of everyone telling him "You know, you sound like a nazi."

Naw. Godwin's law is actually "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1." Pretty neutral, really.

Though what's really sad is the still-current neocon meme. They make a racist comment, then call you racist for calling them out on it. *coughcoughBannercoughcough*
