Dearest State Department....

You've sent me my new passport. You've destroyed my old one's scanner line so it's unusable. Question. Why would I want it back?

And more practically, I had to submit my old and new passport when I applied for my latest visa.

As to the application for a Visa, that seems .... silly to me. I mean, why would they care if you had one before or not, unless the new one is less than, like, a year old or some such.
